My flat season 2018

Favourite tracks….Catterick and York

Hello.

And so, as the nights draw in, I come to the end of another flat season, with great fun attending meetings live, watching on the box and betting every week, because I love to watch thoroughbreds run, from the likes of Weelan running in a handicap at Catterick, to Saxon Warrior winning the Guineas at Newmarket. I was so pleased to see Enable winning the Yorkshire Oaks at York last year and what a star she is, having had a long lay off with injury, coming out and winning the Arc again in France and the Breeders Cup in the States.

I bet my usual amount of money overall….sensible fun!

Overall I made a loss of 16% even though I had a lot of good winners. Irritatingly I had many 2nd places and far too often shun decent each way odds. Hey ho! Here are a few facts….

Meetings attended 18
Catterick 8 York 3
Redcar 2 Ripon 2
Thirsk 1 Carlisle 1 Newmarket 1

Winners 38 including
Limato, Sir Dancelot, Bataash twice and
Gifted Master 20-1
Caspian Prince 18-1
Weelan 16-1
Foolaad 14-1

Favourite race live
Catterick Dash won by Foolaad in very exciting finish

Favourite race on the box
Champion Stakes at Ascot….Cracksman annihilating the field for the second year running

Favourite tracks….Catterick (for everything, including food!) and York (sheer quality)

Favourite horses….sprinters Limato, Sir Dancelot and Caspian Prince who has won for me in the last three seasons at 18, 11 and 25 to 1!

So, what about my betting over the last four seasons when I’ve been keeping my betting spreadsheets?

2015 season….profit 25%

2016 season….profit 5%

2017 season….loss 6%

2018 season….loss 16%

Overall, over 4 years, I have made a 1% profit!

So, not getting rich but still ahead of the bookies and still having fun following such a great sport.
